SAS vs Dover 2009Posted Friday, April 17, 2009 by Jay Hutchinson After a long and trying week weatherwise, the Saints were amped up today to play their game against the Senators on a gorgeous sunny day. The verdant green field was a striking background for the Saints’ exciting victory over Dover. White got the scoring going and then was involved on the next three goals, scoring the third and assisting on the second and fourth tallies. On the day, White would have five points. New attackmen, Martin Milspaugh and Hugo Francis, chipped in two goals. Connor Gerstley scored his first goal of the season on a screamer of a shot. The offense celebrated the fact that it got fifty shots for the first time this season.
Another stellar performance was submitted by the defense. Van Fossan and Train combined for seventeen groundballs and had little trouble clearing the ball. Ben McDonald had several nice takeaways while Derin Akintilo was a physical presence for the Saints. Once again, Will MacIntosh showed great poise in the goal and threw many outlet passes to start St. Andrew’s on the break. Leading at halftime 5 – 3, the Saints were determined to hold the lead and put Dover away, however the Senators showed their ability to strike quickly scoring twice in less than a minute to tie the game at five. Just fourteen seconds later, Gerstley added his goal but Dover refused to back down and tied it one and a half minutes later at six. With only nine seconds left in the 3rd quarter, senior Jai Wesley scored a beautiful goal to put the Saints up again only to have the Senators tie it with 8:34 left in the fourth. Finally, White put the Saints up for good with his third goal and Francis added an insurance goal. The final goal of the day was a beautiful as Hart assisted Milspaugh. This victory was a total team effort. Middletown is next; the Saints are working toward going into the long weekend at .500. |
