St. Andrew's completed a season sweep of the Tatnall Hornets with a decisive 11-4 victory at Tatnall. This victory puts them in a tie for First place in the Independent Conference with one more conference game to go against Friends. There were a number of great individual efforts in the game, but there was no doubt that the trio of Senior Captains wanted this game badly. Phil Valliant was a dominant force in the game recording 4 goals and 3 assists on the day, and a number of ground balls. Phil was also very effective controlling the ball and the coaching staff did a great job moving him around between attack and midfield. Luke Walter had a 3 goal game as well and was very effective on ground balls and clears and showed his leadership with a lot of hustle getting back on defense. Dan Dittmar played a great game in goal and had a season high 19 saves. Dan continually frustrated the Tatnall shooters and was controlled and precise in the clearing game. The overall team defense was certainly the best of the season and the man down defense was extraordinary throughout as it seemed the team was down a man almost the entire second half. Ben McDonald and Russell Train shut down 2 high powered scorers from Tatnall and continually disturbed the passing lanes with multiple interceptions and deflections. Needless to say it was a great win for the team, which enjoyed great support from a number of parents that made the trip to Tatnall. The road does not get any easier with a game on Friday against top ranked and undefeated Salesianum. The team finishes up at home next Tuesday with a chance to secure the Independent conference title (or a share of it depending on the result of the Tatnall-Tower Hill game on Friday). Congratulations to the players and coaches. |
